What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900s in Japan. Reiki is administered to self or others by a Reiki Practitioner or Reiki Master. It involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner to the client. It helps to remove energy blockages and can promote relaxation, balance, self-healing, self-devlopment and/or spiritual development.

Reiki is not a religion and is open to all people regardless of age, race, religion, sex, or gender identity.

How do I prepare for a Reiki session?

To prepare for a Reiki session, wear comfortable clothing, and come with an open mind. It's also helpful to hydrate well before and after the session.

What should I expect during a Reiki session?

During a Reiki session, you will lie down on a massage table fully clothed while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above different parts of your body in a series of hand positions. Your practitioner will not place hands on you without your permission. Treating above the body does not lessen the effects of a Reiki session. You may feel warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation. You may hear sounds or see colors/patterns. Each person is different, but no matter what you feel during your treatment, Reiki is giving you what you need.

What if I am skeptical, will Reiki still work?

The client does not even need to believe in Reiki for it to work. All they have to do is express a willingness. The energy will flow where it needs to go. 

Can I use Reiki alongside medical treatments?

Absolutely! Reiki is safe and will complement any form of complementary or medical treatment. It is now used in over 800 hospitals across the US including the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Cleveland Clinic to name a few. Reiki is one of the top three complementary in-patient therapies in U.S. hospitals, along with massage therapy and music/art therapy. It is used in many more hospitals and hospices throughout the world. Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you have any symptoms of illness you should see your doctor. A Reiki Practitioner will not diagnose nor recommend any form of treatment.
